I started this sketch a week ago – if you popped by to read the previous post you may recall seeing the beginning of it. It’s a double page spread in my practise journal and I worked on it most evenings, often erasing lines as often as I sketched them. I didn’t use any reference photos and it shows – and I changed my mind about which quote to use at the last minute…… And of course I’d do it very differently if I decided to make a painting….
……… but it was a good exercise and a chance to work through some of the emotions I was feeling.
I’m hoping that next post I can return to plump teddy bears and other things that got themselves doodled, drawn, coloured or painted this month.
Thanks for coming by today, I’m always happy that you did!
I’m finally back here to see the final version. It’s beautiful Pauline, and I hope it helped to begin your healing. Love and hugs.

I see the anguished faces, but had to revisit your sketch to see the rainbow. I’m glad you are working through your feelings with art. I love you, Pauline.

It’s a wonderfully powerful picture. I especially like the way the sun catcher spread its colors lightly along the drawing. It seemed to remind me that even at the darkest moments there will be healing light—a light of hope.

Lovely thoughts SS, as I’ve said before it is often difficult to take photos in this house without a sparkle making its presence known – this was a particularly persistent rainbow, intent on leaving it’s message. I’m a bit slow, but you guys helped me get there 🙂

The remembrance ceremony from Christchurch was an example of a community that is genuine, tolerant and caring. If only the world was more like New Zealand.

I haven’t caught up with that event yet Yvonne, I’m glad you have! The others are still out there, but they are staying on facebook for the time being.

The remembrance service from Christchurch today was so genuine and moving. New Zealand shines a strong light of example to the rest of the world.

Teddy bears are lovely and all but this has raw emotion and the little bit of color says that somewhere down the road will be some healing for all. You have a good and huge heart, Pauline. Thank you for sharing yourself with us.

My plans for March were somewhat derailed and you have been spared an unending parade of teddy bears, cats, birds and even a dragon 😀 Thank you for your kind words Marlene! xoxo

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I love the teddy bears and all the rest very, very much. Sometimes your heart has to take a different direction for a bit and what you made was very moving. We need some of that too. Love and hugs.

I do like this drawing and that little bit of rainbow light on it. It’s beautiful and expressive. Creativity is necessary, even more so in dark times, isn’t it?

Yes! It’s less about art and more about working through emotions – great stuff!! The rainbow you know is an act of God – three photos, three different rooms, three rainbows. I was trying to get the post up, getting annoyed with the sunlight and chose the one with the least colour 🙂 Now I know it represents hope ❤

Yes. I thought you might have put it in or had it come through sunlight, but it is definitely hope.

Yes – I had the same reaction to the rainbow. It made me feel hope.

Pauline – it’s amazing! The sad faces – but then there’s the rainbow and the words of comfort. What a beautiful tribute.

Jodie I took three photos in three different rooms and every one had a rainbow in it – I gave up! But now I think it must be meant to be 🙂

Pauline, what a lovely tribute. Art does help through the rough patches. What would the world be without art?

Their pain is evident, Pauline ❤
I know that feeling of helplessness in the face of such a tragedy. As individuals, we do the best we can to work through our emotions. I find such release in writing poetry.

This is wonderful, Pauline. You’ve captured so much emotion. And I love the quote you chose. It’s perfect. What a remarkable and compassionate Prime Minister you have. She is a leader in the true sense of the word.
