Inky Doodle Note-Cards, the Winner

Thank you to all my friends who commented and did the poll thingy on the last post.  Of the fifteen who voted, fourteen went for option 1: no envelopes.  It was a low voter turn-out, but given the way voting has gone globally recently, who wants to vote any more?

Alys, in a private email, persuaded me to offer an ‘envelopes included’ option in my shop for those countries who have  a different measuring system to the one I use.  So that remains an option in the shop along with the no-envelope option.  They are up, you can see them here.

However, in my next post I shall show you how to make a custom fit envelope for those odd shaped cards we sometimes end up with and wish to send.  It’s easy and gives you the opportunity to make your card, or letter, or any odd thing you wish to send, entirely original and you maybe won’t have to purchase another envelope, ever!

So, I carefully wrote out all your names, cut them into neat little slices ……

…….and threw them into my favourite coffee cup – emptied of coffee I hasten to assure you and newly washed and dried…..

The cup was shaken, vigorously, but not stirred and then I hooked one piece of paper and tried my best to photograph the action simultaneously

  3. ooops, I missed this one;-( I love your new inks…cute doggie friends:-) I was drawing yesterday in my journal…I got myself a great pen and am having fun! I see why you love doing it, It is a great escape for me, I just need to find more time to do it! You INSPIRE ME!!!!

  5. Congratulations to the lucky winner. What a fun giveaway. Your cars are gorgeous. I have a few envelope templates that I use on occasion. I like to reuse my wall calendars when I can. It’s fun to see where the picture lands. I can’t wait to learn your method, Pauline.

    • I know you make envelopes using your old calendars, which is such a brilliant idea! It’s a pretty easy method Alys, no special tools required. The slowest part is remembering to photograph every step, I’ve made four envelopes so far as I keep on missing out taking pertinent photos….. Sometimes I think having the ability to film the process would make life so much easier!! 🙂

    • I can see how you might think that SS, but a millisecond before this was snapped they were nose to nose smiling at each other…. Siddy was caught just in the beginning process of jumping down from his perch to have a game of chasing with his new friend. I remember this because no more photos were possible 🙂 So yes, they were just getting their plans straight 🙂

  7. Hi Pauline, I’m sorry I missed your previous post and didn’t get to vote. I had email woes for a couple of weeks and missed blog notifications. Back on deck now, I hope. I do like these Inky Doodle Note Cars, though. You are very creative, and they make a nice addition to your store. What a lovely gift they would make for someone special.
    I look forward to your envelope-making instructions. A parent of a child I once taught made me oodles of envelopes. She folded a page from a magazine and pasted on a white rectangle for names and addresses. She was amazing. The children loved writing their letters to each other (and me) and putting them into an envelop before posting them in our classroom post box. I also bought an envelope making template once. I forget where it is now, haven’t used it for years. But is is a great thing to do, and also good for children to make their own envelopes – it’s a good procedure to follow. It’s on my list for a future readilearn resource. I wonder will it be similar to yours. Probably not as crafty!

    • Gosh, you took me back! I did that with one of my first classes – wrote letters and went to the real post office to post them…….. Only did that once 😀 The kids and their families loved it but it was a logistical nightmare. That was a great parent to have providing you with envelopes, I’m sure she was really happy to have that outlet for her crafty makings too.
      Crafters love to share!
      Do you know, I know several people who regularly create their own envelopes and have no idea how they do it – I imagine we all use a similar system, it will be interesting to find out. I have to admit my envelopes are usually a bit wonky these days as my eyes don’t seem to have that ability to see perfectly straight like they used to do. But hand made is hand made 🙂

        What an expensive outing the post office with all your children’s letters, but I’m sure they loved it, and the parents would have appreciated it.

  11. Mine came in the mail at last! We have a community mailbox which I confess I check intermittently and I was away for 9 days so I’m not sure precisely when they arrived! Regardless, they are so pretty and I’m tickled you chose the name of that series based on our exchange. I’ll be using the first card this Saturday to attach to a housewarming gift for my nephew. You amaze me with this doodling ability, raising a pen and ink reverie to the level of art! Thanks, Pauline.

    • I was just starting to be concerned over the whereabouts of your cards. I realised you were away, but thought they would be there by the time you got home – I hadn’t factored in your intermittent mail box checking 🙂 Most pleased to hear you are happy with them! 🙂

  15. Well I have missed something extra special I see. Congratulations to Geoff. I have a handy dandy ‘WeR Memory Maker Envelope Punch Board’ LOL, they could abbreviate it I suppose. Have you seen them? They’re made by a crafting company. I love when the envelope matches the card. If I do buy a store-made card, I always hunt the display for a pretty coloured envelope. Yes, I’m one of those people who’ll snitch an envelope from a different card because it fit’s too and is prettier, LOL. Why aren’t they all pretty I wonder? BTW, I love the idea of Haute Mess, very posh xoxoxo K

    • I do have one of those, my daughter gifted me one when they came out – but I rarely use it – the measurements are all wrong or not big enough for the cards I make. So I use my freehand method most of the time. 🙂 Now you’ll be able to demo with doodles – your guests will love it!! I got your order – you are a sweetie! Are you sure you don’t want to wait a year and just take some home with you?

  22. Yay for Geoff. I’m sure he will enjoy them. I’m also very happy to see Siddy has a good friend. He is the size of my sisters previous dog. Her name was Healer and when Schatzie went to the dog park with Healer she was not so timid as when we were alone.Healer was very gentle but large enough to make tiny Schatzie ( Siddy’s size) feel quite safe. Everyone needs a friend. Love that cup. Think I should get one of those. 🙂

    • My hot mess cup makes me very happy every morning when I pour my only coffee of the day into its generous tub. When that is gone I’m ready for anything! And when my early morning blogging friends make me laugh and I snort coffee everywhere there is still plenty left in the mug 🙂

      Siddy has many friends, most of them human. His doggie friends are mostly around the same size as he is, the bigger ones tend to ignore him, or possibly don’t see him. And as Siddy gets older he is becoming more wary of big bouncy dogs, he has been stood on one too many times. This young pup took a shine to him and Siddy was happy to oblige, as long as he was just as high up. It’s nice when a dog is timid to have a friend who makes them feel braver isn’t it. Schatzie and Healer must have been quite a sight to see!

    • I think you will like this method very much Fran. I didn’t invent it, but have probably refined it over the years. Terribly easy!
      Siddy felt safer up there eyeball to eyeball, better than looking at the hounds hocks! He’s thrilled Earl is proud 🙂

  24. Congrats to Tangental!!! I look forward to the tutorial on making envelopes. I have sometimes just wrapped a card up in paper and taped it. I’m sure you’ll teach us something quite different. Siddy looks very pleased with his outsized friend. Glad they’re buddies.

    • I learned how to make freehand envelopes a few years ago and still prefer this method over anything else – I should do it more often 🙂 That dog is less than a year old, a dalmatian. He is very well behaved for a pup, but I think Siddy felt safer up there at the same level.
