My friend Geoff over at ‘Tangental’ has just brought my later than normal morning coffee to a full stop, favourite coffee mug half way to my mouth, filled with the wonders of experiencing life in all its multitudinous wonderful choices – please read and enjoy and choose to be awesome too! ❤
I listened to the song for the first time after following your link. beautiful.

I would also like to suggest listening to Joni Mitchell’s whiskey older sounding Cd of the very same song. She has said that this was about 10 years ago, but she felt the “weight” of knowing what Life held, that she didn’t sing it all cheerful but more like the thoughtful person she has become. Check out “Love Actually” soundtrack or look for a more recent recording date, Pauline. I believe you will be so interested in the real meaning she gives this beautiful song!! Thanks for reblogging TanGental. 🙂 Hello and hugs to you, pats or scratches on head for Siddy and Orlando. 🙂

I watched Love Actually [again!] this past Christmas – it’s one of my favourite movies. 🙂 I was more impressed with Geoff’s train of thought than the song itself. [Not being particularly a JM fan] As I said somewhere here before, however you get there is fine with me 🙂 Thanks for coming by and interacting with so many mutual friends here Robin – a lovely gesture to make. xoxo

I do remember that song and it had me humming it for hours. Some are better at seeing both sides than others. It’s a good talent to have and needed more than ever now. Thanks for sharing it.

It’s a great post isn’t it Marlene. I think it takes hard work, and being consistently done, to practise the skill though. We can all learn it.

Thanks for sharing this post Pauline.A truly classic song done nicely by Joni herself or by many others including my favourite Judy Collins. It does allow for some introspection.

Although never a Joni Mitchell fan, love the words of this song and it does make you think. We should all be considering both sides. Thanks for sharing this post, Pauline.

You may like Judy Collins singing Both Sides Now or the older, more wiser Joni Mitchell version of this song. She sings it like she has experienced life, examined and understands it better in the “recent” 10 years ago post. Smiles, Robin

Sometimes a song just hits the right spot and sends you off on an introspective path – just as this did for Geoff. It’s the clarity and excitement of the thoughts that is important isn’t it – however you get there is fine with me. 🙂

It is amazing how music can take you to a place of interperspective thought or memories!

Spooky, I haven’t heard or thought of that song for years, then last weekend we had an identify the song from the lyrics round at the golf club quiz. Both Sides Now was one of the very few I could identify and my hubby was very insistent they weren’t from it – but they were. If I was given to fanciful thinking, I’d say someone’s trying to draw my attention to it!

Don’t want to skite but we’re so light
That we can fly high in the sky.
Cirrostratus, Altostratus, Nimbostratus,
Cirrocumulus, Altocumulus, Stratocumulus,
(shouted) Fog!
A summer’s day has come our way,
The lovely clouds bring gentle showers…
It was for a musical called “The Lost Angel”.

That’s very clever – I especially like the shouted bit 🙂 It wasn’t that one I knew – sadly, for it had no shouted bit ….

That’s a nice post. As I told the author, Ronald Reagan used lines from the Magee poem when he eulogized the astronauts who perished in the space shuttle Challenger tragedy. I wasn’t a fan of Reagan’s but that speech was perfection.

It is such a glorious piece of writing that poem isn’t it – some of those young men who perished left such poignant words behind!

One more comment. The day I found out David Bowie had left, a friend who is also a big fan texted me this. “the clouds look very different today”. It made me feel better somehow. ❤ ❤ ❤

Thanks Pauline, for sharing this. You are a special human being and the world a brighter and better place with you in it. This is precisely what I needed to hear and read tonight to quiet my inner uneasiness. Perhaps I will finally get to sleep tonight.

Thanks Pauline. The lovely thing about blogging is when I find a well of optimism, of get up and go I can share; when I just want to chew the toilet seat with frustration, I dig out humour to wrap it up and toss it away.

Ah clouds….they are so fascinating, and have more than two sides, I think; but then I have been a member of The Cloud Appreciation Society (out of the UK) for several years now, and have loved looking and looking at all the kinds and sides, though I haven’t been in a plane for a long time….

You’re right of course Cynthia – clouds have infinite sides, maybe they’re sideless and one of the cheapest hobbies to enjoy pretty much any day. So much to be gained by letting the mind wander..

I love clouds too Cynthia – when I’m flying my time is spent staring out the window watching them. I didn’t know there was a ‘Cloud Appreciation Society’!
