  4. Wonderful post, Pauline! You have so much to celebrate and so much life to live! Being retired is pretty amazing–you’ll find yourself wondering how you ever found the time to fit work into your schedule! I can’t wait to see what you make!

    • Me too Kerry! When the ‘to do’ list is finished I shall be in that art room and at it again – it has been sadly neglected these past six months! At the moment it still feels like I’m on holiday 🙂 Thanks for coming by 🙂

  10. Kym WISHES that she could retire! She is the same age as me Ms Pauline, in fact she is a couple of weeks younger than me! “Wish on Kymmy!” ;). I think I retired when I started having kids. I retired from society and became a “stay-at-home-mum” where I learned the value of staying at home and the bliss of wearing pyjamas all day, feeding your kids hotdogs out of an electric kettle and how to turn bran into something tasty…I tell a lie…you just can’t turn bran into anything tasty! I am assured by my now adult kids that I fed them hotdogs out of an electric kettle on numerous occasions but my almost addled brain still recalls the reason why I used my not inconsiderable clever-cloggedness to use the electric kettle (ran out of gas…whatchagonnadoeh? 😉 ). Life is what you make it. If you choose to be sad about the years going past you won’t have time to see how amazing the years right here, right now actually are. I look in the mirror and there are wrinkles there that weren’t there last year…I get those wrinkles. They are telling me that I have spent time in the sun, that I have lived, I have loved and I have existed. I am proud that I made it to 50 and am looking forwards to whatever extra time I get from this point on. HUGE hugs to you Ms Pauline. I know a lot of people who suffer through their birthdays. Some of them wipe themselves out in order to bypass a day that they would rather not participate in. I eat cake…I watch the sunrise and the sun set and I celebrate the fact that I was born. Lifes bloody amazing and this little black duck isn’t going to waste it for the sake of a birthday or 50 ;).

    • One of the reasons I love my birthdays is that my friends and kids make such a big deal of it – when I was a kid they were ignored. I feel every year is a victory and getting here is a major one! I am ecstatic about being ‘aged’ 😀

      Sorry Kym – if you come back to read any of this – you have a way to go but woo-hoo wait for it and it will be soooooooo much fun 🙂

      I don’t believe a word you say about the way you fed your kids – but the wrinkles cause – yes, that is spot on! And I agree about the celebration of life. I believe it just gets better, it certainly is doing so for me!

      • Same here Ms Pauline and this band of raggle taggle “Women of a certain age” has been a most revealing and delicious inclusion :). My friend who lives down the road tells me that she no longer has the breasts that she had when she was 20 but she certainly kept the bags that they came in ;). “Suck it up Kymmy, only 14 years to go!” 😉 (note I am ducking furiously!) 😉

  12. What a special way to celebrate your birthday. And you are wise to have practiced for your retirement. Most people seem to try and avoid it which is not wise, in my opinion.

    • When do you retire Kym? I have been practising for it and arranged everything so that I am in the swing and ready to go! 🙂 When my week with my daughters is over I have a [small] garden to plant out and then it is into my art room! I suspect the days will zoom by! Did you get my note on fb that your three lovely pieces had arrived for the dangler? I am looking forward to seeing what I can make of it all. My boys are starting to become friends – Orlando has capitulated and is tolerating the advances of the puppy and prepared to be in on the fun – as long as it doesn’t get too rough. I think it is lovely to watch to their processes and progress.
