We got Happy Mail today

Oh! Big broad smile as we discovered a new ‘Mini Orlando’ a tiny crocheted kitty, especially made for us….

Our friend gentlestitches and I did a swap – and we got the better deal 🙂

The detail is amazing – he even wears a collar and identity tag like the real Orlando used to until he lost it  couple of weeks ago….

This is the most amazing little hand made animal I have ever seen!  Sharon’s pictures of her work are always quite mouth watering, but when you actually get to hold one in your hands – it is quite spectacular!  The colour, the detail, the character – it is quite wonderful and words are failing me!!

Orlando was also quite impressed, Mini Orlando was given the seal of approval, a gentle head bump – which is, I believe, the feline version of a high five!  I get one every morning at breakfast time 🙂

The two friends then commenced to sit and stare out the window at the Saturday morning activity …..

  1. I saw this post several times on my phone but couldn’t make out the pictures. I finally remember to take a peek while sitting at an actual computer. That high pitched sound you’re hearing? It’s me, squeezing with delight. The detail is AMAZING! Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I’m glad Orlando approved of his doppelganger.

    • I think that’s actually a pretty cool idea Will and I thank you for getting into the spirit of it all 🙂 I shall try my best to organise such a photo – keep your eyes peeled ……..but don’t hold your breath!

I tried to comment 3 times but my server had well and truly gone down in the high winds that we had yesterday along with an enormous branch from an otherwise healthy huge tree on Franks property next door…at least he will have something to do/complain about when he gets back from holidays 😉 I LOVE your little surprise almost as much as Orlando does. He is smootching his new little mate with such tender love. Could you please pick him up and give him a smoosh for me? I miss cats. As a kid we always had cats (no dogs) around as mum was a cat person and there was always some kind of mog hanging about that could be hoisted and hugged at a moments notice. Steve just finished your delicious spoon and like every other spoon he has made I want it! It is ready to be sent off (along with 3 other spoons that should have been sent to various recipients last year!) where did last year go?!!! Anyhoo…I will email you when it does, indeed, get sent sometime this week no doubt. I just have to get my act together, the dogs in the car and head over to Beaconsfield to send them all 🙂

    • I’m pleased you are up and running again! High winds are always a bit alarming, more so when things go flying – hope they have died down now.

      I feel a bit that way about not having a dog any more – though I never had them as a child, we always had one when the kids were growing up – and lots of cats too…….. but my menagerie days are over alas and wee Orlando appears to be it.

  11. That is so lovely! And big Orlando obviously has taken to his little O . . . perfection all ’round, I say. I love your photos, too, Pauline. They add something almost ethereal. And I am going to steal your phrase ‘Happy Mail’. Just what it is! Don’t you wish we could read the minds of our animal companions sometimes? I was looking at the photo of the two gazing out the window together and wondering what was on their minds . . . ~ Linne

    • Linne dear, steal away, it’s not my phrase, it is quite commonly used in the crafty world. Though I tend to use it when I get any little something in the post that makes me happy. 🙂

      Yes, there is a little magic there, Big Orlando has taken quite a shine to Little Orlando and is to be found sitting beside the wee chap happily gazing off into the distance……. I’m a little intrigues by it.

      I think Sharon weaves a little magic into her creations.

      I don’t know about reading their minds, I am convinced they can read ours – or at least our emotions. I had a little black cat in the UK many years ago. I lived in a two story converted barn and he was playing in the garden and I was looking through the upstairs window watching him and thinking how beautiful and happy he looked. At that very moment he stopped what he was doing, raced inside and up the stairs to where I was as if I had called him. Things like that happened all the time with that particular cat, and to a greater or lesser extent have happened with all previous cats.

  12. That is really so dear and sweet Pauline. What a beautiful and thoughtful gift. I love your photo of Orlando giving head butts to his new mate look-a-like. I can’t wait to pop over to Sharon’s blog. I also thought your presentation of your photo’s was extra special with the cute frames and just a whisper of sheer damask overlay. Very creative and pretty. You’ll no doubt find a very special spot for mini Orlando to reside and enjoy him. Maybe by the window with a view? xoK

    • Thank you dear Boomdee! I keep looking at this wee kitty and trying to work out how Sharon made him – and I can’t! this is a sign of a true artiste I think – he exists and there it is.

      Of course you would notice the photo framing – they needed a special presentation I felt as most of the post today is photos – and who told me where to go to find such a thing? Mmmmm…. could it have been your very dear self?? Answers self: Why, yes indeedy CC, it was indeed Boomdee! [Hooo that rhymes! 🙂 ]

      They do look pretty don’t they. I shall be tempted to do this more often!

      And yes, I think a spot near the window would be perfect, then they can sit and gaze together….

  15. That is adorable! What fun to get packages in the mail. I love that the two of you are swapping specialties. I do believe you are right on the head bump. Our Slinky, who was as wild as a cat could get (biting and scratching) decided to head bump me one day and I knew we had made significant progress.

    • I’ve taken to saying “Hi five!” to Orlando recently when I get my morning head bump – he usually goes for my hand so I figure I’m right – and must be as you agree with me!

      I think you will be charmed by Sharon’s ‘Aussiegurimi’ [I think I spelled it right] look out for the croc – it’s spectacular!

        My sister, also a Sharon, shared a link of a cat ‘giving five’ to his human as he passed by. I’ll see if I can round it up.

        I can’t imagine life without animals. Did you also see the clip of the bird feeding the dog?

        • I just hunted it down – that is amazing – the care with which the bird offers the food and the care with which the dog takes it especially… but I am also entranced by the dipping of the food into the pan – the whole thing is quite enchanting!

    However I saw this poster which I fell in love with and thought “I wonder what Pauline could do with that?” Your paintings have a feminine, free spirited, strength in them with a touch of gypsy. They are a gentle empowering experience. 🙂


    I am good at immortalizing critters in yarn and I really “zone in” to the animal when I make one.

    • I think you do too – zone in – I am intrigued by how Orlando is responding to this toy….. while I was writing the post he hunkered down beside Mini without batting him onto the floor or in any other way molesting him as is usual …. Something a little different!

      I love that quote – I’ve never seen it before and can really relate to it! Lets see what comes – you get a print if it works 🙂

  20. Aww! What a lovely tribute to my mini Orlando. How funny that Orlando went and lost his collar and I tried to hard to duplicate it!! HaHa!! You can’t work with animals. Your photos are really lovely. I can’t wait to show my friends. I have your gorgeous cards on my mantelpiece at the moment but I am looking about for a frame. I love them and they make me smile. 🙂

    • I know! He’s worn a collar and that tag all his life [he’s 7 now] I was thinking the tag was looking a bit worn and the phone number hard to read – and he came home without it! Just another example of him reading my thoughts! I’m currently scouring Etsy for a new collar for him, so he will be re-collared and tagged again soon.

      I am so impressed by the attention to detail you put into this – Mini Orlando will have a place of honour to sit eventually, but I think for the next wee while he will stay close by so I can admire him frequently!
