Smallest Things

It’s raining today – still warm, but wet and grey.  Typical spring weather really, yesterday I found I had a tinge of pink on my arms and shoulders after an hour sitting in the garden – medium rare 🙂

I’m been working on 180 gsm water colour paper – but from now on will move to 300 gsm – I don’t like the amount of buckle and curl on this lighter paper – you’ll see it in the photo.

It’s because of all the different mediums I’m playing with.

Acrylic paints, papers, stamps, pencils, pens and inks.

It makes for an interesting texture, there’s loads of ‘layers’ so the eye has a sense of depth.

As so often happens with me, I thought I was painting one thing and ended up painting something else – but I quite like her:

The legend is a quote from AA Milne – it’s in one of the Winnie-the-Pooh books, but I can’t remember which one ‘Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart’

Painted on A4 paper, ready for framing – she is going into the shop today!  🙂

You will have noticed the watermark?  I’ve been warned that there are people out there who steal your work and pass it off as their own.  I knew this before, but didn’t think that anybody would bother to help themselves to mine – but apparently they have and so now I have to do this for anything I load onto my blog or pinterest .

On the up side – I am flattered that my work is considered good enough to steal.  Thank you for the compliment 🙂

  3. Amazing that there are people stealing your work and other artists. It is sad, really. However, I like your attitude! Looking at the good side of everything.

      It is indeed from our bear friend, the original quote in my quote book reads “Sometimes,” said Pooh…………..

  4. It’s not raining here today — cold and crisp and I’m going to take this wonderful image into my heart, where a small, nasty thing has taken up too much space all morning…and replace it with this image. Ah, peace. Thank you!

  5. Such a shame we have to be so proprietary about our personal work but that’s the harsh truth. I think you’re smart to add the watermark. I don’t have any copyright notices on my sight because I’m not selling anything but if I did, I’d do the same. I think most people are fair about attributing others work, but it only takes one knucklehead to change your views.

    On the bright side, she’s a lovely girl. I also fancy the little drop waist dress she fashions. I need to find time to finish a few crafty things…I’m so behind.

    • This morning I’m thinking I prefer to stay in my old way – happy to trust in the good intentions of others. I like your use of the word ‘knucklehead’ though – it describes the situation exactly!

      You could probably make that dress with your clever sewing ability!

      You have been so busy arranging surprise parties and bit-stripping I’m surprised you have anything else on the go!

  6. Are you kidding me!!! You barely opened your shop and then that happened. I simply can’t imagine taking credit for someone else’s work. Flattering, yes, but horrible too. How did you find out?

    On a completely different note, Slinky, who pretty much lives on my desk, never looks at the monitor. She just put up her paw and touched your painting. Be still my heart.

      It’s a long and convoluted story – the short version is a friend who had pinned one of my cards just happened to stumble upon the picture pinned under another persons name. She sent me the link but it didn’t work.

      What I found particularly interesting about the incident is it was a card I blogged about ages ago – a Prima Doll stamp which I kept working on and ruined….. but it is not original work – the basis of the piece is a stamp and you can’t sell things like that – -which is why you’d take other people’s creative work surely?

      Second, is I have seen peoples lovely photos all over our blogging sphere with big copyright symbols and names plastered across them and think it is such a shame to ruin your work with these things – don’t be so precious [I think smugly to myself] trust – be at one with the universe……

      The third interesting thing was I had seen a post from Kelly Rae Roberts on Facebook showing a photo of an Etsy shop stocked with her images that someone had appropriated and made into lovely cushions and rugs and such like. I’d looked at it and wondered if the ‘thief’ knew she was stealing – it looked so nicely done, surely it was all an innocent mistake – KRR was being a bit harsh, a bit quick to judge I thought ……. Now I realise how KRR must have felt! Her work is original [and beautiful] mine is just me playing around with a stamped image.

      This has been what I would call a fortuitous warning…… 🙂

      • Your work is beautiful. Please don’t sell yourself short. I’m glad you discovered the ‘theft’ at the start of opening your shop. Lessons learned.

        I saw a similar stamp to the one you are referring to at a local shop recently. They stamped it and painted it on Shrinky-dink, material, then baked it, reducing it to a charm. I loved the idea.

        Anyway, back to your lovely work. I hope word gets out and you are enormously successful. It is flattering to be copied, but it’s illegal and immoral, too. Best of luck with it all.

      • It’s not raining here! (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) We got over a foot of snow in about a day (Tuesday, I think it was) and expect more beginning today, on into tomorrow. I miss rain, a lot, but dampness? Not so much . . . 😉 just over two weeks or so back we had +20C days, yesterday it was -31C with the wind chill. The snow is lovely, though and the evergreens look quite Christmassy 🙂

  10. I can’t believe you are going through Spring! We are getting close to winter, officially. They are giving 34 for the high on Sunday and 17 that night. It’s technically too soon for temps that cold, but it’s coming. All my pretty flowers are dead, but I found a weed with some character and potential.
